We are looking to add a full-time Accounting Specialist to our team in Beltsville, MD. This position reports to the Controller and will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, recording transactions, reconciling bank statements, preparing financial reports, and managing accounts payable and receivable.

The role requires a self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and able to approach nonstandard tasks to create and maintain efficient, standardized processes. Leading candidates will have the ability and willingness to learn. They will demonstrate flexibility, knowledge in technical accounting, and attention to detail. This role will regularly interact with other departments across the company, so candidates will need to possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

Responsibilities:

Preparation of consolidated financial statements resulting from timely monthly close activities.

Accruals and JE's - Responsible for preparing monthly accounting journal entries including fixed assets, capitalized leases for equipment and office space, expense accruals, and revenue.

Assist in preparing and filing tax payments and returns, liaison with tax accountants

Perform complex general ledger reconciliations to source documents and research variances.

Establish and implement accounting and finance department policies and procedures.

Respond to accounting inquiries by researching and interpreting accounting policy and DCAA regulations.

Collaborate to support reporting, automation, and process improvement across the organization.

Assist with the annual audit, tax compliance and other regulatory requirements.

Initiate, drive and implement process improvements; constantly look to invent and simplify.

Leverage business knowledge to provide input on reporting improvements.

Collaborate with other team members to answer financial questions and ad hoc requests.

 

Required Experience:

5 – 7 years of progressive accounting experience (GL, month-end close, account reconciliations, and ERP use in a manufacturing or government-contract environment appreciated).A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field

Working knowledge of major accounting and ERP systems, payroll providers, and other related add-ons and vendors. (Experience with accounting software like QuickBooks is highly valued)

History working in fast-paced, emerging company environments preferred

 

Required Skills:

Proven analytical and financial reporting skills using Excel, including advanced formula writing using functions, and data analysis.

Experience generating reports to support executives and business stakeholders.

Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Advanced MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP's and pivot tables

Experience with general ledger functions

Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills. Problem solving skills (results-oriented and responsible for actions and outcomes. Meets commitments and strives for high performance.)

Organizational skills (Workload management, timely decision making, effective prioritization, result focused problem solving, and proactive approach.)

Technical proficiency (ability to apply technical knowledge and skills required.)
