We are looking to add a full-time Equipment Engineer to our team in Beltsville, MD. This position is a part of the equipment engineering team and will bridge the gap between the internal engineering teams and external equipment suppliers, assisting with equipment trials to determine vendor capabilities and establishing requirements, equipment specifications, and design parameters. In addition, the equipment engineer will lead all communications with equipment suppliers throughout the design, fabrication, and commissioning stages, including scheduling, design review, and performance/acceptance testing. This role demands a detail-oriented person capable of working closely with different teams to ensure the project's success.


Responsibilities:

Leading sourcing, commissioning, and maintaining of high-volume and fully automated roll-to-roll coating and slurry mixing equipment

Providing technical guidance in coating-related subjects such as mixing, slurry delivery systems, web treatment, drying/curing, web guide systems, etc.

Providing support for upgrading existing slurry coating and mixing equipment

Collaborating with R&D and manufacturing teams to define product and process requirements, design parameters, and equipment specifications

Managing external trials and obtaining quotes to assess vendor/equipment capabilities and identify the ideal unit

Overseeing the design and manufacturing of the equipment, devices, and systems while managing the budget and schedule

Determining facility requirements and collaborating with the operations team to prepare equipment installation

Leading design review, performance validation, acceptance testing, and transfer to production process


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical disciplines

1+ years of experience in wet coating and slurry formation processes

3+ years of experience in manufacturing

Competency in using Solidworks or other 3D modeling software

Experience leading major capital CAPEX projects and project management

Experience with automated equipment design, installation, de-bug, and ramp-up

Understanding of mechanical & electrical drawings/design

Experience preparing RFQs and soliciting proposals from equipment manufacturers

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences

Demonstrated ability to lead with or without direct authority.



Desired Qualifications:

2+ years experience with scale-up process from lab or pilot equipment to high-volume production equipment

Experience in one of the following industries: lithium-ion battery manufacturing, solid-state lithium manufacturing, ceramic manufacturing, or glass manufacturing.

Experience with one or more of the following processes: roll-to-roll machinery, high-temperature furnaces, and/or high-volume automated assembly

Experience with high-throughput equipment design and validation

2+ Years experience with lithium-ion or other battery cells automated assembly equipment.

Familiarity with GD&T

Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems
