Job Description

ION is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to fill a position as a Quality Control Analyst. The Quality Control Analyst will provide fast analytical diagnostics on ceramic production, incoming production materials, and powder process analysis. In addition, this individual will gain experience in analytical equipment diagnostics and maintaining documentation while adhering to proper lab procedures. The QC Analyst will collaborate across multiple departments to discuss product quality and current sample trends. The applicant should have good communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Excellent attention to detail and accurate record keeping is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate various analytical instrumentation including, X-Ray Diffractometer XRD, Brunnett-Emmett-Teller BET Analyzer, Thermogravimetric Analysis TGA, Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM, Pycnometry, Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy ICP-OES and Particle Size Distribution PSD Analyzer according to Standard Operation Procedures SOPs.
  • Compile analytical data and interpret results using standard procedures to understand sample quality.
  • Flag raw materials or finished products with chemical properties outside of company standards.
  • Manage incoming chemical samples while practicing safe handling and proper storage procedures.
  • Practice efficient and effective work habits for sample analysis turn-around period.
  • Properly document lab samples in internal databases and track the progress of analytical testing to completion.
  • Maintain sample organization for ease of lab use.
  • Report inconsistencies, malfunctions and/or variations of samples.
  • Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate across departments for sample scheduling, analytical equipment use, and analytical testing methods.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to existing chemistry methods and procedures. Help document changes as necessary.
  • Work under the supervision of the Quality Control Lab Manager
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment.
  • Aid in calibration/validation of lab equipment in compliance with lab validation programs.
  • Aid in exploratory or innovative methodology for new applications on existing lab equipment.
  • Assist in R&D exploratory experiments as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science/Engineering or a combination of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and take initiative.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have a positive attitude, be self-motivated, reliable, and prioritize workload.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Ability to function independently and efficiently under the guidance of management.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior hazardous chemical experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience with analytical techniques including XRD, BET, SEM, TGA, ICP-OES, and Pycnometry is a plus.
  • Prior experience with Standard Operating Procedures composition, revision, and execution is strongly desired.
  • Prior experience with equipment maintenance is a plus.
