The Process Engineer I/II will perform critical engineering work in support of the manufacture of state-of-the-art solid-state batteries. Typical responsibilities include analyzing production data, troubleshooting problems, improving yield, analyzing equipment capability, writing SOPs, and running process development trials. While your primary focus will be our in-house manufacturing, you will also help identify suitable equipment and evaluate vendors OEMs for various manufacturing equipment. The Process Engineer I/II will be part of a Manufacturing team that works closely with other engineers and scientists as part of a fast-moving, cross-functional team. The applicant should have good communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable working proactively and independently in a fast-paced environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Manufacturing including regular analysis of production data, reporting on results, managing root cause analysis investigations, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Provide leadership and direction for our manufacturing processes including improving SOPs, batch records, tooling, etc in order to eliminate defects and minimize mistakes.
  • Work and help technicians in resolving problems and improving processes.
  • Drive process development from proof-of-concept to pilot scale and beyond.
  • Manage and/or support projects to validate and source equipment required for future manufacturing growth. Analyze different equipment options to balance cost, capability, performance, and capacity while using or collecting data to drive decisions.
  • Support equipment design and safety reviews, coordinate tasks for receiving equipment, factory & site acceptance testing, equipment performance validation, and transition to operation.
  • Coordinate with contractors to implement Facilities changes needed to support newly acquired equipment. Document equipment, process, or other changes as needed in SOPs.
  • Perform all work in adherence to company environmental, health, and safety guidelines. Be proactive in identifying and correcting potential safety hazards.
  • Travel: 10% Expected. Ability to occasionally travel both domestically and internationally.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. BS in Chemistry or similar may be considered with relevant experience.
  • 2-4 Years of Industrial Manufacturing Experience
  • 1-3 Years Experience with industrial chemical processes in a pilot or production setting. Experience with high-temperature heat treatment processing is desired including maintenance of such equipment.
  • Excellent data analysis and communication skills.
  • Statistical analysis skills SPC, DOE, Minitab, JMP. Ability to create, manage, and analyze substantial process data and present it in a succinct, cohesive manner.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years managing projects to acquire new industrial equipment including CAPEX requests, Specification Reviewal, RFQ process, Installation, SAT/FAT or IQ/OQ/PQ, etc.
  • 1-3 Years of Experience scaling up manufacturing processes from pilot to full-scale production.
  • Experience in one of the following industries: batteries, ceramics, or glass manufacturing.
  • 3D Modeling Experience using a CAD Software
  • SQL and Python experience is a plus, especially if used in a similar industrial setting.
  • Experience with PLCs and/or automated logging of process data.
  • Other skills of potential interest include mixing and automated roll-to-roll and web handling manufacturing processes. Industrial ceramic processing experience is also desired.
