Manufacturing Technician (I/II/III)

The Manufacturing Technician I/II/III will perform routine procedures required for fabrication of solid-state battery materials on prototype and pilot-scale production lines. Tasks will include hands-on materials processing, data collection, and data input. Processing involves materials handling and equipment operation, examples include powder batching, powder milling, roll-to-roll coating, etc. The Manufacturing Technician I/II/III will work closely with other engineers and scientists as part of a fast-moving, cross-functional team. The applicant should have good communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Excellent attention to detail and accurate record keeping are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating process equipment to a production schedule for the manufacture next-generation battery materials. Take initiative to ensure all tasks are completed on time and to schedule.
  • Performing various tasks for processing and fabricating materials according to SOPs, Work Instructions, or Engineering Test Plans. This may include operating automated or semi-automated equipment and/or performing manual processes such as weighing chemicals on a scale.
  • Working independently under general supervision and direction from a supervisor, scientists, and/or engineers.
  • Data collection and entry to the Production Database and/or Excel files.
  • Proactively reporting inconsistencies, malfunctions, and/or variations in equipment.
  • Providing essential feedback on how to improve ISS methods and procedures as we work to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing process. The role will be critical to the development, improvement, and execution of our processes - bring bold yet practical ideas and work with the team to make them a reality.
  • Performing all work in adherence to company environmental, health and safety guidelines and maintaining cleanliness of work areas.

Required and Desired Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required with a minimum of one year of experience operating manufacturing equipment OR BS in a field of Science or Engineering with a minimum of 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Willingness to take instructions, ask questions, offer relevant knowledge, and maintain positive relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent in-person daily schedule operating equipment. There is currently only one shift and standard work days are Monday through Friday.
  • Flexibility to infrequently work overtime as needed. This may occasionally include weekends.
  • A minimum of 1 year with common industry or laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Desired: 1 year of experience with use of automated or semi-automated equipment.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory and/or industrial safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with proper disposal of laboratory chemicals.
  • Preferred: 3 or more years of industrial manufacturing experience including handling chemicals.

Required Skills

  • Comfortable with daily use of MS Teams, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Reliable and self-motivated.
  • Ability to independently operate industrial machinery in a safe manner after proper training.
  • Preferred experience: 2+ years manufacturing battery cells, ceramics, laboratory chemical processing, and/or using ovens to process manufacturing parts.


  • COVID-19 vaccination is required prior to starting.

  • Ability to climb stairs and occasionally lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Ability to wear laboratory PPE such as lab coats and gloves.
  • Ability to wear a fitted or powered air respirator occasionally as required by company policy.
  • Ability to work around magnets occasionally.
